Loopy Swap - Round Two!

March 14th, 2008 | by TheSheepGeek |

The next swap is starting in April! I will have heard back from UC Davis, should be slightly less crazy, and ready to knit away my sorrow or in my excitement, depending on how things go.

Some changes are being made this round, so I’ll be announcing them here, and on the blog.

Which brings me to the first thing - format. I’m going to be keeping the blog format, but will also be making all important announcements on Ravelry as well. I will also try to keep an active thread going here on Ravelry, for those that have difficulty with the blog. However, we need the blog for participants who don’t use or have access to Ravelry.

We will be doing a round robin format for this round. There are several advantages to pairing people up - however, since participation was spotty on the blog, I’d like to give everyone as many chances as possible to make friends.

We will be doing a theme - however, it will be a little less challenging than last time. Since we’re smack-dab in the middle of spring, we’re going for that. Spring is the theme. Everyone likes spring. And if you don’t, you can convey your hatred for the season in your lovely goodies.

Speaking of goodies. Everyone seemed to think that there wasn’t a real need for monetary limit, persay. However, there will be a suggested minimum value of $20.00, not including yarn. This doesn’t mean that if you don’t have the money to spend you can’t or shouldn’t play - lots of things have value that don’t cost money. And thoughtfulness is worth a lot as well. It just means you have to be clever. I do, however, want everyone to be aware that people are putting some fantastic goodies in these packages, so that no one feels guilty. Which, incidentally, no one felt cheated last round, so there shouldn’t be any guilt anyway.

Participation is going to be a big goal for this round. And, as such, I will be running a few very minor contests. One each month. If you post to the blog or the ravelry thread during that month, you get your name thrown in the random number generator hat. If you post a picture to the blog or the ravelry thread, you get your name thrown into another random number generator hat. Every month, one name gets pulled from each hat, and two people get something small and fun.

Which brings us to a new feature this go-round. I’m trying to figure out a way t let people post pictures anonymously. It may just mean emailing me with what you’d like to post and I’ll put it up for you. But if someone has a better idea, you should totally let me know.

There will be some new rules - mostly about regifting and what does, or does not, constitute flaking. I had some headaches early last swap that I don’t plan to have again.

The swap will be open ended again - one knit item made from yarn from TLE. Knitters choice, unless you partner has specific restrictions.

Finally, because there are no major holidays this go-round, the swap will be 10-weeks long: April, May, and half of June. For comparison, the last swap ran: November, December, January and half of February.

I will post instructions for sign-ups, including special instructions for those who participated last round, on Monday. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns - about anything here or anything I failed to mention - please go ahead and ask.

This, incidentally, is crossposted to the blog. :)

Was there a survey that we were supposed to get after the first swap? I did not get one to fill out. If not..then just disregard. :-)
